Background of the study

Educational reforms are critical instruments for promoting social justice by ensuring equitable access to quality education and fostering inclusive learning environments. In Kano State, recent reforms have aimed to address disparities in educational opportunities, improve curriculum relevance, and enhance teacher training. These initiatives are designed to reduce socio-economic gaps, empower marginalized groups, and create a more equitable society (Abdullahi, 2023). Educational reforms in Kano have included the integration of modern teaching methodologies, technology in classrooms, and updated curricular content that reflects local cultures and global standards. By emphasizing critical thinking, social responsibility, and cultural awareness, these reforms strive to produce graduates who can contribute to societal transformation. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, infrastructural deficits, and resistance to change hinder the full realization of social justice objectives in education. This study evaluates the impact of educational reforms in Kano State on promoting social justice, examining the extent to which these reforms address inequality and empower diverse student populations (Ibrahim, 2024).

Statement of the problem

Despite the implementation of educational reforms in Kano State, significant disparities in educational access and quality persist. Many students, particularly those from marginalized communities, continue to face challenges such as poor infrastructure, insufficient resources, and outdated teaching practices. These issues impede the reforms' ability to promote social justice and create equitable learning environments. A comprehensive evaluation is needed to determine the effectiveness of current reforms and to identify barriers that prevent the achievement of educational equity (Abdullahi, 2023).
